Lorenzo has a Master in Biological Sciences obtained at Università degli Studi di Milano with a Postgraduate Qualification in Pharmacology (Ph.D. equivalent). More then 25 years experiences in R&D, Business Development and Venture Capital. He held various senior positions in multinational companies such as Zambon Group SpA and Catalent Inc (formerly part of Cardinal Health Inc.). Lorenzo established licensing and acquisition deals with pharmaceutical, biotech and medtech companies. General Manager of Zcube srl (Research Venture of Zambon Group) from 2008 Lorenzo developed collaborations and investments with major universities hubs in Europe, United States and Israel, as well as with Mission Bay Capital and the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3), headquartered on the UCSF Mission Bay campus. Board member of biotech companies including SuppreMol GmbH when acquired by Baxter International Inc. for EUR 200 million in 2015. President of Italy HealthCare Licensing Group (ItalyHLG) 2010-2014 and Honorary President of the Business Development Academy since 2014.

Research Manager at the National Research Council of Italy. Coordinator of the Research Group of Bioceramics and Bio-hybrid Composites since 1996. Author of about 200 scientific papers and inventor of 16 patents, among which 10 international. Coordinator of National and European projects. Founder of the spin-off company Finceramica Biomedical Solution SpA in 1995, then CEO and presently lead the Scientific Advisory Board. Awarded with “Marisa Bellisario” prize by Confindustria Italia for leading significant advances in material science, biomedical field. Teaching in several Universities and Tutor of several Ms.C and Ph.D students. Organizer of International Symposia on biomaterials and Chair of the International Conference on Biomaterials, “MiMe”, 2011, Italy. Since 2011 Senior Member of the Research Institute of the Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas, USA, as consultant for Materials Science applied to Regenerative Medicine. Winner of the “Innovation Special Price”, conferred by Swisse Embassy in the ambit of Working Capital – National Prize for Innovation, 2011. Editor of a book on the recent advances in material science for new biomimetic materials.

Andrea is a Researcher of CNR-ISTEC Faenza (RA) – Institute of science and Technology for Ceramics, Bioceramic and Bio-Hybrid Composite Group. Andrea has a degree in Chemistry (Bologna University, 1999), Ph.D. in Chemistry Science (Bologna University, 2004) and he obtained Chemist Profession Qualifying on 2000. Andrea has 18 years of experience in ceramic material science and his main expertise are on research and development of biomaterials for regenerative medicine, focused on chemical synthesis, biomorphic transformations and materials characterization. He collaborated for several Research Project and Contract in Biomaterial science: 2013-2016, EP SMILEY “Smart nano-structured devices hierarchically assembled by bio-mineralization processes”; 2010-2014, EP OPHIS “Composite phenotypic triggers for bone and cartilage repair”; 2007-2012, NP FIRB “Innovative Materials for the development of articular bio-prosthesis”; 2006-2010, EP TEM-PLANT “New Bio-ceramisation processes applied to vegetable hierarchical structures”; 2011-up today, Scientific Coordinator for chemical and physical characterization services to Finceramica Faenza SpA. He produced over 50 papers published in international journals and book chapters, 3 international patents and over 50 technical and scientific reports and he communicated to over 30 meeting on Biomaterials Science. Andrea was Scientific Responsible of the Chemistry Laboratory of CNR-ISTEC Faenza from 2008 to 2014. He won the “Start Cup 2011 – Il Sole 24 ORE – Area Nord” and “Special Prize of Innovation of Switzerland – Working Capital 2011” with entrepreneurial project BONE-AID.

Simone Sprio is Senior Investigator at the Institute of Science and Technology for Ceramics, National Research Council of Italy. Master Degree in Physics and Ph.D. in Chemistry, Simone is Project LeadSimoneer in the Research Group of Bioceramics and Bio-hybrid Composites and has nearly 20 years of experience in Material Science addressed to the development of advanced ceramics, with particular focus on biomaterials for bone regeneration. In particular, Simone has wide and long-lasting experience in advanced synthesis/consolidation methods for the development of advanced bioceramics, and in the study of chemico-physical and microstructural phenomena occurring during ceramic phase transformation in various environments. Author of about 80 scientific papers and 5 international patents, and editor of a book on recent advances in development of bio-inspired devices for regenerative medicine, Simone leads research projects dedicated to the development of porous bioactive ceramics for bone regeneration in orthopaedics, spinal, maxillofacial and cranial surgery.

Alberto Ballardini DEVELOPMENT & PRODUCTION


Alberto has a degree in Organic Chemistry obtained at Università degli studi di Bologna with a thesis on the development of a new green methodology of oxidation using oxygen as oxidant and enzymes as catalyst. Currently is attending the second year of Chemistry PhD at Università degli Studi di Bologna with prof. Falini Giuseppe as supervisor. From 2014 employed at Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali Ceramici (ISTEC-CNR) in Faenza in the biomaterials group lead by Anna Tampieri. Alberto works in research project for the development of innovative biomaterials for application in regenerative medicine Expert in techniques for the synthesis, processing and thermal consolidation of ceramic materials. Expert in the most important techniques of chemical-physical analysis on ceramic materials (X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, thermo gravimetric analysis, fourier transformed infra red spectroscopy (FTIR), inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectroscopy) Alberto has participated and has presented his research in various international conferences and schools focused on biomaterials.

Stefania has a degree in Biotechnology obtained at Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca with a master in administrator of informatic system in diagnostic images. She worked in Siemens Healthcare for two years. with a focus on Regulatory requirements of medical devices (class II and III) and in vitro diagnostic products. Stefania supported product specialist in the preparetion of documents necessary to a tender, contacted Ministery of Health in order to the register DM and IVD on databank and managing the Field Safety Corrective Action (FSCA) on the products. Working knowledge of Quality System Regulation, ISO 13485, and 93/42/EC Medical Device Directive (MDD). Experience in quality, manufacturing and product development. Support documentation and training efforts, identification and proposal process and system improvements according to Safety and Quality Standards. Creation and implementation of work instructions, specifications, and other documentation and maintenance of documentation as related to compliance with internal and external safety, quality, and regulatory standards. She is qualified to work in the cleanroom.

Michele has a Secondary School Diploma in Chemistry. He worked for 18 years at COEM SpA (previously named EVC SpA, the largest Italian polymer producer) as Senior Chemical Laboratory expert in manufacturing of PVC. Michele has a remarkable experience in industrial technical analytical techniques such as HPLC with different detection systems. In addition, he developed unique expertise in production robotics to perform quality control on final product online with production line. Michele was also the supervisor of manufacturing operators to check safety during production of high potent material. He was used to work in highly regulated environment applying quality system procedures.

She worked for several years as sales representative and administrator for Italy and foreign markets for different market sectors including medtech. Antonella developed s significant experience in invoice and payment management, supplier and customer management, budgeting and cost control.

Graduated from the University of Bologna in 1999 and admitted to the Italian Bar in 2003. He advises on general company law and corporate governance advising shareholders, directors and auditors in the management of corporate governance. His practice extends to commercial international contracts. He handles recovery plans according to the alternatives provided by the Italian Bankruptcy Law. He also has experience in litigation (in particular in corporate and commercial, insolvency and IP law). In addition, he regularly advises clients on a wide range of finance matters, including debt and equity finance, and is experienced in advising on banking regulatory matters. He completes his consulting services holding offices as statutory auditor, as member of the board of directors and as member of advisory board for companies operating in manufacturing sector, in services sector and biomedical technologies sector.

Claudio co-founded in 2007 Innogest Capital, a Venture Capital firm with about € 200 Mln under management, and a partner in the Healthcare and Cardiovascular practice at Innogest. Claudio serves as chairman of the VC Committee at the Italian VC and PE association (AIFI) and is part of several private and public bodies involved in start-up and entrepreneurship development. Prior to Innogest, Claudio was - Associate Director at The Carlyle Group (London) - Strategy consultant at Bain&Co (Italy) - Supply Chain Manager at Hewlett-Packard (California and France). Professor Peter Giannoudis



Professor and Chairman within Academic Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery/ Honorary Orthopaedic and Trauma Consultant Peter Giannoudis holds the chair of Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Leeds. His clinical work is focusing on the management of patients with multiple injuries, pelvic and acetabulum reconstruction, upper and lower limb fractures and post fracture fixation complications amongst others. He is the author of 600 peer reviewed publications and editor of ten textbooks on orthopaedics. He is actively involved in education at both National and International level (Chair AO Davos Courses, Polytrauma, Masters, Limb Salvage). Moreover, he is hosting courses/master classes annually in Leeds, focusing on fracture fixation, surgical techniques, and surgical approaches. Throughout his career, Peter has served in a number of positions of responsibility including President of BTS, President of the European Society of Pelvis and Acetabulum (ESPA), International Chair Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA), President Elect ESTROT (European Society Tissue Regeneration in Orthopaedics and Traumatology), Clinical Director of Trauma Services in Leeds, Executive Member EFORT Trauma Education Committee and Editor in Chief of the Injury Journal. In 2015 he received the NHS Unsung Hero award voted by the patients of Leeds.

Christian Candrian



Christian is the deputy head of the department of surgery and orthopaedics, head of the Traumatology and Orthopaedics Unit of the Regional Hospital of Lugano and consultant for orthopaedic surgery at the Regional Hospital of Locarno. Christian has a degree in medicine obtained at the University of Zürich and has obtained the FMH for surgery in 2004 and for orthopaedics in 2007. From 2015 he has become a professor of traumatology and orthopaedics at the University of Basel and 2018 at the University of Lugano. He is also lecturer for the Superior technical school for professional care of Lugano and at the Superior medico-technical school of Lugano. Christian has a great interest in the ortho-trauma research; he contributed to the foundation of the laboratory for “Tissue Engineering of the locomotor system of southern Switzerland” and founded the Clinical Research group of the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Unit at the Regional Hospital of Lugano. He is member of many orthopaedics societies such the Swiss Society of Orthopaedics (SGO), the Swiss Society of Surgery and Traumatology (SGACT), the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Arthroskopie (AGA), the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS) and the Società Ortopedia del Ticino (SOTI). He is the Swiss delegate of Trauma Educational Committee of EFORT (European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology). He has published in international journals.

Professor Maurilio Marcacci



Full Professor Orthopedics Humanitas University in MIlan, Director of the Milan Orthopaedic surgeon Joint Reconstruction Center at Humanitas Research Hospital. He started teaching at the University of Bologna in 1986, became associate professor at the University of Bologna in 1999, full professor in 2001. Prof Marcacci has been Coordinator of the degree course in Orthopaedic Techniques since 2012, Director of the First Level Master in Biomechanics Diseases, Pathology and treatments of the upper limbs; Director of the School of Specialization in Orthopaedics and Traumatology (2013-2016); Temporary Scientific Director of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute (2015-2016). Marcacci holds 9 patents and is head of applied research projects dedicated to sports traumatology, regenerative medicine and innovative techniques for joints reconstruction, the study of new application for stem cells and Platelet-Rich Plasma, biomechanics of the lower limbs with special focus toward new prosthesis implants, and RSA radiography technology. Author of over 400 papers published on international magazines, 48 book chapters, 6 books. Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Sports Traumatology, Technique Knee Surgery, Sphere Medical Journal, Journal of Sport Traumatology, European Journal of Sports Traumatology.
